Toldi is a lengthy epic poem based on Magyar folk legends, telling the story of a 14th century legendary hero.
His first masterpiece, Toldi (1846), an epic of classical popular realism, earned him national recognition. He was an actor, notary, editor, and professor of Hungarian literature at the Nagy-Koros college. Toldi's name is derived from a 14th-century Hungarian folk hero Toldi Miklos.
