Nimrod Boys is a complementary book to Nimrod Rise and Fall from acclaimed author Tony Blackman. As the first jet-powered maritime aircraft, it could reach critical points for rescues or for operational requirements in rapid time. It is a collection of over forty first-hand accounts of operating the Nimrod, an aircraft which was a trailblazer in the Cold War RAF.
However the aircraft demonstrated its flexibility on other operations. When reading the contributors' accounts, it becomes obvious that tracking submarines and shipping was a very important task for the Nimrod as was having an aircraft continually on stand-by readiness for search and rescue sorties. The Falklands campaign was an unexpected occurrence and there are several accounts in this book recounting how splendidly the aircraft performed, particularly once the flight refuelling capability had been added.
