They came from various tribes in the Indian territory of present-day eastern Oklahoma.
This book explores their lives from enlistment through to discharge and examines how they trained, lived and fought. Confederate Indians were organized into regiments by tribe, with Cherokees eventually raising three regiments, and the Unionists were organized into the Indian Brigade of three regiments.
