This textbook offers in-depth coverage of the cultural competency skills needed for working with diverse Australian communities in psychology and counselling settings, and in social science research. Each chapter is split into three parts, with part one contextualising the topic from researchers and scholars. Concepts such as colonialism, socialisation, discrimination and bias are introduced, as well as approaches for change such as decolonisation, intersectionality and self-awareness within the context of multicultural understanding and responsiveness.In the following eight chapters the book encourages readers to explore the following 'isms' Postcolonialism - Indigenous Australians, Racism, Classism, Sexism, Cisgenderism and Heterosexism, Ageism, Ableism and Sizeism.
