In their elegant hotels, cafés and bars, Berlin’s glamorous denizens shimmy towards the abyss. The capital’s life and rhythms are governed by poverty and depression on the one hand, on the other the dance craze - and jazz. War, flight and exile are the horsemen of their apocalypse.
A new world order – and a new youth culture – will seal their fate. The sounds of their era have faded.
