Robert Graber suffers the Bends and severe damage to his acoustic nerve during a scuba diving accident in Jamaica, leaving him deaf because of the repercussions of a curse placed upon him. The voices become more sinister and overwhelming they take control of Robert by possessing him. At home, Robert acquires a set of hearing aids through which he begins to hear strange voices whispering to him.
The church realizes that they are dealing with a very powerful demon, Lucifer's second in command Malpahs. Robert's wife Amelia turns to the Catholic church for help. They begin a one-on-one battle with the Malphas to free Robert from the demon.
